Welcome to Swellendam Birding, South Africa is blessed with several diverse ecosystems, from Fynbos to our Oceans. The Overberg has an amazing range of many of these habitats. Whether it is Grootvadersbosch Forest, where you would find unique species like the Knysna Woodpecker and Knysna Warbler or meander through the farmlands and mountains where you can record Blue Cranes, Denham’s Bustards, Ground Woodpecker and Rock Thrush respectively, all the way to De Hoop (A RAMSAR site) where you can spend time recording the Cape Sugarbird, Orange Breasted Sunbirds, Southern Double Collard Sunbird, amongst many other unique Fynbos and Waterbird species.
